General Information

The Departments of Otorhinology and of Bronchoesophagology were established in the early part of the twentieth century by Matthew Ersner and Chevalier Jackson respectively. They merged into a single department in 1985.
The Jackson Clinic was a magnet for patients from around the world suffering from airway and esophageal foreign bodies. Chevalier Jackson, his son C.L. Jackson and later Charles Norris and others created a tradition of imagination and skill that made Temple the leading center in America for bronchoesophagology.
In the ensuing years, Temple developed a reputation for leadership in otology, head and neck cancer management and pediatric otolaryngology. Current centers of excellence include a comprehensive Skull Base Surgery team, Neurotology and Cochlear implantation programs, and a Laryngology and Voice Center.

The residency program at Temple was born 40 years ago. Its many graduates practice throughout the United States in both academic and clinical settings.
